Oh God. Here we go again...
Keep your eyes on Massively because I can't write about my Aion experiences here until the NDA drops. A number of us have press keys though, so we can write about it over there! :)

Apparently there won't be too much difference between the two versions, but rumour is that they plan to "Westernize" it a bit, which I guess means take out some of the grind? :P
Anyway, I'm in the beta too now.
The two main issues is the grind and the game economy. Now, I never minded grinding for my levels - and earning my gear through hard work. The problem is . . . a VAST majority of people didn't feel the same way. In short, the highest level people and the people with the best gear are your botters and the people who purchase in-game gold. NCSoft did nothing to stop this, and I would honestly estimate that 75% of the game's population cheated.
I will give you an example. In Lineage 2, you would lose 4% per death. Botters would not like to outlevel the area they were farming - so they would bot/farm for a while, then bot/kill themselves. Farmers were almost always Dwarfs, as they are the only race that got a "spoiling" skill.
So, after the Dwarfs farmed and leveled up - they would need to de-level. (The Dwarfs all had names like Ffffhhhdhddd). So, the Dwarfs would all strip off their armor and run a macro program that would have them spawn in town, they would run and attack a town guard, the guard would kill them . . rinse/repeat.
It was not unusual to see 100 Dwarfs doing this in town. For four years, you could see the same dwarfs farming outside of town, and then killing themselves in town. Total lack of caring on the part of NCSoft.
The Dwarfs would then sell the gear they acquired at such a high price, that is skewed the game economy . . and even the most honest of players often purchased gold because there was no way they could afford gear by normal means.
Do yourselves a favor. Play Aion on a private server.
